Simone Biles is an American Olympic athlete who won over 30 Olympic and World Champion medals for her proficiency in gymnastics. Raised in Spring, Texas, she showed an interest in gymnastics at the young age of six during a daycare field trip. She joined Bannon’s Gymnastix and developed her athletic skills there for 11 years.
She established herself in her career at the junior elite level in 2011, the World Championships in 2013, and in the Rio Olympics in 2016. She continues to represent the United States as an Olympic gymnast and is set to compete this summer.
Simone Biles is the first female Black American all-around world champion and the first female gymnast to win three consecutive World all-around titles. She is also a feminist and has been quoted saying, “I’m not the next Usain Bolt or Michael Phelps. I’m the first Simone Biles.” Throughout her accomplishments, Biles has proven herself to be a fantastic role model for not only athletes, but for all young adults across the nation.
